Tips and advice to help you enjoy your fishing at Vaumigny Fishing Lake

The lake is fed by four separate springs meaning a high water quality. Because of this water quality the lake supports a very rich aquaculture. There are many bloodworm beds and large varity of invertebrates leading to a good level of fish growth healthy reproduction. The lake currently holds around 900-1000 carp the majority of these are 15ib + and growing. There are a number of big catfish up to 86kg (180lb) sturgeon to 35kg (86lb)along with grass carp to 30lb+.
The lake has a hard bottom with many features. These features are gravel patches and small bars there are also gullies and silt pockets. All of which are attractive to carp so a good marker/feature finding set up is required to get the best out of your swim. The margins are over grown and give good cover for fish they are also quite often over-looked as anglers concentrate on casting at the horizon.
The average depth of the lake is around 8-10ft so finding marks to fish to in your swim is important. There are no weed beds in the lake so the fish do move around quite a bit. They are not shy either with fish rolling and jumping even in the depths of winter so keep your eyes open.
Because the lake is free of serious snags and weed heave and haul tackle is not required. However the means of fishing effectively at 100m may be required depending on swim weather etc so be prepared. This means 4oz leads shock leaders and a good technique. But long distance casting is not the be all and end all of success at Vaumigny. Most fish are caught from features in the 30-60m range. So buying the latest big pit reels and casting rods is not necessary. Rods of 21/2 test curve and baitrunner size reels are all that’s needed most of the time.

Bait for Vaumigny is really up to the angler use what you are confident. In fresh or frozen baits are consistently the better producers. But as we all know sometime carp show a preference for ready mades, hi attract pop ups etc so it is worth bringing a bag just to ring the changes. Seed and particle baits should be correctly prepared and really used in moderation not just launched in by the bucketful. A jar or two of Dynamite baits particles is really all you need for a week if this is backed up by pellets and good quality boilies. In the height of summer then tiger nuts are the best bait in France. Only properly prepared tigers should be brought and one tin of nut is enough for a week.
If you have a bait boat or a row boat then you can bait very accurately. If you don’t have either then don’t worry because spodding is very effectve at Vaumigny. Little and often is the best policy as you can always put more in but you cannot take it out!! So to sum up fish how you would in England, use properly prepared and good quality bait. Think about how you are fishing and the rewards may be yours and above all enjoy the surroundings and the fishing.
